“Copy-Paste” Trick

1. The “Copy-Paste” Trick (STO & RCL)

Stop writing intermediate numbers on your scratch paper. It’s slow, and you might transpose a digit. Your calculator has 10 memory slots (numbered 0 through 9) that act like a digital clipboard.

How to Save a Number (Store):

Think of this as Ctrl+C.

  1. Type the number you want to save.
  2. Press the STO button.
  3. Press a digit key (0 through 9) to pick a “slot” to save it in.

Example: You want to save 500 into slot #1.

  • Type 500 –> Press STO –> Press 1.
  • Done. It’s locked in.

How to Retrieve a Number (Recall):

Think of this as Ctrl+V.

  1. Press the RCL button.
  2. Press the digit key (0 through 9) where you saved the number.

Example: You need that 500 back.

  • Press RCL –> Press 1.
  • Boom. 500 appears on your screen.

Deep Cleaning: How to Wipe the Memory Slots

Here is how to scrub them clean:

Option A: The “Spot Clean” (Deleting just one number)

Use this if you want to reuse Slot #1 but keep the data in Slot #2.

  • The Trick: Just save a “0” over it.
  • Steps: Press 0 –> Press STO –> Press 1.
  • Now Slot #1 is empty (zero).

Option B: The “Total Format” (Deleting ALL memory slots)

Use this before an exam to make sure you have a clean slate.

  1. Press 2nd –> [MEM] (the 0 key).
    • This opens the Memory viewer.
  2. Press 2nd –> [CLR WORK] (bottom left).
    • This nukes all 10 slots at once.
  3. Press 2nd –> [QUIT] to get back to normal.
